Dorcas Jackson Obituary

Dorcas Mae (Clay) Jackson, 95 of Springfield, Ohio, transitioned to Glory, on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. She was born in Springfield, Ohio, on April 17, 1928, to Maston Clay and Mary Louise (Ventress) Clay. Dorcas was a graduate of Springfield High School. Later in life, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Bible Studies from Liberty University and Doctor of Divinity from Grace Apostolic Bible College. In 1993, she authored the book, How to Implement a Jail Ministry.

Dorcas was employed for 15 years at Wright Patterson Airforce Base as an administrative assistant. She retired from Wilberforce University after 25 years of service in the registrar and bursar offices. Dorcas would later become the property manager for Kent Jackson Properties and served as corporate secretary for Kendor Development Corporation. She was instrumental in the development of the 40-unit Springfield Village housing complex which was completed in 1998. 

Dorcas was a woman of deep faith. She loved spending time in prayer and studying the Word of God. Dorcas was an ordained minister of both the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW) and Higher Ground Always Abounding Assemblies Inc. In 1993, she was appointed as an International Evangelist of the North Philippines Council. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Family Worship Center in Springfield, OH for nearly 50 years and in 2019 was welcomed by her new church family at Higher Ground Always Abounding Assemblies in Columbus, OH.

She enjoyed hosting large monthly dinner parties, traveling with her three closest friends, “The Golden Girls,” and fishing and boating with her husband on Lake Erie.

Dorcas is survived by her children, Kent Jackson, Kevin (Lisa) Jackson, and Kerry Jackson; grandchildren, Latosha Jackson, Kevin Jackson II, Lindsey Jackson, Miles Senior, Brooke McCormick, and Jordan Johnson; two great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; special cousins, Myra Ventress, Shirley Ventress, and Marsha Jones; best friend, Betty Carter; special friend, Mother Elease Shaw; newly discovered niece and nephew, George and Betty Williams, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives, church family, and friends. Dorcas was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Jackson, her parents; brothers, James Clay, Matthew Clay, and Ardell Williams; sons, Kenneth Jackson, and Kennard Jackson; daughter, Patrice Senior; son-in-law, Ellsworth Senior; daughter-in-law, Beth Ann Jackson, and grandson, Hayden Jackson.

Dorcas epitomized elegance. She will always be known for her strong faith, fervent prayer, praising the Lord through dance, her exquisite fashion, humor, and words of wisdom.

A visitation in Springfield will be Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 3-4 p.m. in the Robert C. Henry Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 24, 2024 from 5 p.m. until the time of service at 6 p.m. in Higher Ground Always Abounding Assemblies, 870 St. Clair Avenue, Columbus, Ohio.  Burial will be Monday, March 25, 2024 in Ferncliff Cemetery at 10 a.m.
